This series includes memos, correspondence, contracts, sales information, and manuscript drafts of NYBG publications, as well as Steere’s publications. Specific publications include The Garden Journal, NYBG's Guide Book (1972), and the Wild Flowers of the United States series. Materials for the Wild Flowers of the United States series include correspondence with Mrs. David Rockefeller, who was a major project supporter and fundraiser. This series also includes the records of NYBG's publications committee.

Materials for Steere’s publications consist of correspondence and drafts for a number of special biological series. Amongst the publication materials are records for several instructional biological text books to which Steere contributed, his article on Botany for the Encyclopedia Britannica, records of his work for the Time Life Nature Library, two books of essays he co-edited with Willis Johnson, and additional records with a lengthy list of his publications.
