The Henri Philibert collection consists of one box of seven files of the author’s translations from French into English of a series of articles entitled “Studies on the peristome.”

Biographical / Historical

Henri Philibert (1822-1901) was a bryologist and honorary professor at the Faculty of Letters in Aix, Germany, where he was born 15 November 1822. He conducted studies of an anatomical structure of mosses called the “peristome” which is a ring of moisture-absorbing teeth surrounding the opening of the moss spore capsule.
