The collection consists of one item. This is a manuscript list of plants in Clarke's herbarium, which are not included in Britton and Brown's Illustrated Flora.

Biographical / Historical

Sarah Louise Rogers Clarke (d. 1906) was a member of the Torrey Botanical Club from 1891-1906. She maintained a large herbarium consisting of her collections in the Adirondacks and materials, which she purchased. Much of this herbarium was donated to the New York Botanical Garden. A large part of her mosses were donated to Washington University.

In 1879, Clarke was married to Samuel Belcher Clarke, a lawyer who was a principal in the firm of Root and Clarke, New York City . They had two children, Edith Cornelia, b. May 8, 1881 and Roger Henry, b. Feb. 1, 1884. The Clarkes resided at 1 W. 81st St. in New York City. Both Clarkes died in 1906.
