Scope and Contents

This series consists of a series of leather bound notebooks which were donated to the New York Botanical Garden in July of 1979 by the New York Microscopical Society. The 8 volumes of over 1700 images are all labelled with scientific names, place of origin, date and dimensions. One of them is the work of Ohio governor and Secretary of the Interior, Jacob Dolson Cox (1828-1900). Additionally, a set of 47 mounted diatomic photographs compiled by pioneer of photomicrography Joseph Janvier Woodward (1833-1884) are also part of the Cox papers. This series has been cataloged and removed for storage to the Photo Vault. Its call number is QK 569 C7 W66.
